The educational journey of Henry Richard School pupils begins in Nursery as the first stage in Phase 1. Generally, children are admitted to Nursery part-time during the term after their 3rd birthday. Similarly, they start in Reception Class in the term after their 4th birthday. See the registration arrangements table below:

From Nursery age up to the end of Year 2, your child will follow the Foundation Phase curriculum. During this period, they will study the following areas:

  • Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity

  • Welsh Language, Literacy and Communication Skills

  • Mathematical Development

  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World

  • Physical Development

  • Creative Development

In Years 3 and 4, the National Curriculum is introduced through thematic and focused activities. Stimulating and engaging themes are followed on a 2-year rotation. Our aim is to provide a rich provision for all learners, offering memorable experiences. Learners have the opportunity to go on a stimulus trip once per term where possible.

In Years 3 and 4, your child will study the following areas:

Welsh, English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Technology, Information Technology, Religious Studies, Geography, History, Physical Education, Personal and Social Education, Art, and Music.
